Fractures Spreading Out of a Corner on a Saturday in St Leonards

A large front window at a St Leonards home cracked from impact, and the fractures had started spreading across the top corner. The customer called urgently, which was the right call.

Spreading is the word that makes it urgent

A static crack and a spreading one are different problems. Once fractures are propagating out of a corner, the pane is actively failing and will keep going, because each new crack relieves stress into the next section of glass.

On a large front window that matters. It is a big, heavy sheet at the front of the house, and when it finally lets go it does so all at once.

Same day, Saturday

We attended the same day and replaced the damaged panel with new laminated safety glass, restoring strength to the aluminium frame.

All work was carried out to AS1288, and the area was cleaned and re-sealed before completion. That last step is what keeps water out of the frame and stops the new panel sitting in a channel that leaks, which is where a tidy job and a rushed one differ six months later.
