A shopfront window at a Commonwealth Bank branch was damaged and needed replacing. The panel measured roughly 3 metres by 2.4 metres and weighed approximately 200 kilograms.

At that size and weight, the glass stops being the difficult part of the job. Getting it into the opening safely does.

Why 200 kg changes everything

A panel this size cannot be carried in by hand. It is not a question of how many people you put on it, either. Once glass is heavy enough that a slip cannot be recovered, adding people to the lift adds people to the incident.

Manual handling of oversized glass is where the serious injuries in this trade happen. Crushed fingers, back injuries, and glass dropped onto a footpath outside a trading business. It is also where panels get broken during installation, which turns one replacement into two.

The MPK06 does the lifting

We used our MPK06 glass lifting crane for the whole job.

It takes the panel on suction cups, holding the glass on its face rather than its edges, and controls the weight through the lift. That means the panel can be positioned into the frame precisely instead of being manoeuvred by force, and nobody is ever supporting 200 kilograms with their hands.

The result on this job: no manual handling of the glass at any point, and no injuries.

Why banks and retail sites need this handled properly

A damaged shopfront on a bank branch is a security problem before it is a cosmetic one, and the work happens on a public footpath with people walking past throughout.

Having dedicated glass lifting equipment is what makes a panel that size a controlled, scheduled job rather than a risky one. It keeps the work area small, keeps the public clear of a suspended load for the shortest possible time, and removes the manual handling risk from the site altogether.
