A Sliding Door in Anakie That Shattered on Its Own
On this page
A toughened glass sliding door at a property in Anakie shattered suddenly, leaving the home exposed and unsafe.
Our glaziers attended the same day, removed the damaged glass, cleaned up the area and restored security for the occupants.
Why it went back in laminated
The door was re-glazed with a new laminated safety glass panel rather than toughened.
That is a deliberate substitution. Toughened glass is strong, but when it fails it releases entirely and it can do so without impact. Laminated has an interlayer holding the sheets together, so a break stays a cracked panel in the frame instead of an open doorway.
On a door that has already failed once, replacing like-for-like puts the same risk straight back in the opening. The new panel meets AS1288 and gives better long-term durability for everyday use.
