A Mower Blew Out a Whole Sliding Door Panel on a Saturday Night
On this page
A toughened sliding door panel at an Armstrong Creek home exploded during lawn mowing. The entire panel blew out, leaving the house open.
Why mowing does this
It is one of the most common causes we attend. A mower throws a small stone at speed, and toughened glass is under permanent tension by design. A sharp impact on an edge or a stressed point does not chip it. It releases the whole pane at once.
That is why the entire panel goes rather than cracking in one corner.
Same night, not next week
We attended on the Saturday night, cleared the shattered glass, made the opening safe and installed a new laminated panel so the home was fully secured before nightfall rather than boarded up over the weekend.
Laminated was chosen over toughened for the obvious reason: the next stone will crack it and leave it in the frame instead of emptying the doorway again.
