Lifting Out Two 2.96-Metre Panels So a Car Wash Could Be Serviced

A commercial client in Geelong needed internal repairs to their automatic car wash machinery. The problem was what stood between the technicians and the machine: two large laminated safety glass panels, each 1960 mm x 2960 mm.

No glass was broken. It simply had to come out, undamaged, because it was going back in.

Height was the complication

The panels started roughly 2.4 metres off the ground and reached a total height of 4.4 metres.

At that size and weight, working from ladders or trestles is not an option, and a panel that comes out badly at 4.4 metres does not just break, it breaks over machinery and people.

MPK06 crane and a scissor lift together

We used an MPK06 glazing crane paired with a scissor lift.

The two do different jobs. The glazing crane takes the weight and controls the panel's descent; the scissor lift puts glaziers at working height alongside it so the panel can be guided rather than swung. Trying either on its own is where oversized glass gets damaged.

Both panels came out safely, with no damage to the glass or the surrounding structure, and the client's technicians started on the machinery without waiting.
