A sliding door panel at a Corio home spontaneously exploded with no impact at all. That failure pattern is typically caused by a nickel sulphide inclusion in toughened glass, a microscopic defect that eventually releases the pane's built-in tension without warning.

The frame gets as much attention as the glass
Our priority after making the area safe was to clean the frame thoroughly and inspect it before doing anything else.
When a toughened panel releases, fragments lodge along the full length of the channel. Any left in place sit under the new pane and become pressure points, which is one of the more common reasons a brand new sheet of glass cracks weeks later with no apparent cause.
Inspecting the frame also confirms the failure was the glass and not something in the framing that will damage the replacement too.
Compliance markings matter
A new laminated safety glass panel was installed, complete with matching compliance stickers.
Those markings are not decoration. Safety glazing has to be permanently marked so anyone inspecting the building later, whether a building surveyor, an insurer or the next owner, can confirm the glass meets the standard. Glass without them is effectively unverifiable, however good it is.
