When the Right Answer Is Like-for-Like, Not an Upgrade

A lower window panel at a Grovedale property was broken. The damage was contained to the bottom section, with the rest of the window intact.
We did not upgrade this one, on purpose
Most of our jobs end with laminated safety glass going in where toughened or float came out, because the position calls for it.
This one did not.
The panel was originally standard float glass, and the location does not fall into the human-impact positions where AS1288 requires safety glazing. So the correct, compliant answer was like-for-like standard glass, replaced the same day.
Why that is worth saying out loud
Safety glass costs more. It is genuinely the right call in doors, low-level windows, wet areas and anywhere someone can walk into it, and we recommend it constantly for exactly those reasons.
But recommending it everywhere regardless of position is not advice, it is a sales pitch. Here the standard does not require it and the position does not warrant it, so the homeowner got their window back quickly and cheaply instead.
If we tell you a panel needs upgrading, it is because of where it sits, not because it is a bigger invoice.
