Why a Damaged Double-Glazed Unit Cannot Be Fixed on the Day

A large double-glazed window unit at a Moriac property was damaged by a stone thrown from a whipper snipper.

Because of the size of the unit and the nature of double glazing, a same-day replacement was not possible. That is worth explaining properly, because it is the question customers always ask.

Double glazing cannot be cut on site

A single pane can be cut to size on the day. A double-glazed unit cannot.

It is a sealed assembly of two panes with a spacer and a sealed cavity between them, manufactured as one item to exact dimensions. There is no way to trim, adapt or assemble one at a property, and there is no stock size that will fit an existing frame.

So the correct process is always the same: make safe first, then measure, order and manufacture the replacement to suit the existing frame.

What we did

An after-hours make-safe was completed to secure the opening and protect the property while the new custom unit was measured, ordered and manufactured.

Once manufacturing was complete we returned, supplied and installed the new unit, restoring insulation, security and appearance together.

Anyone promising a same-day permanent fix on a damaged double-glazed unit is either fitting a single pane in place of a sealed unit, which quietly removes the insulation you paid for, or has not yet looked at it.
