Two Awning Windows in Grey Glass, Upgraded Without Changing the Look

A property in Hamlyn Heights had two awning windows originally fitted with grey standard annealed glass.

The problem was the glass type, not the condition

Annealed glass is ordinary glass with no safety treatment. It breaks into large, sharp pieces, which is why it is no longer acceptable in the positions AS1288 covers.

Plenty of houses still have it. It was normal when it went in, and nothing about looking at a window tells you which type you have.

Matching the grey, not just the size

We supplied and installed new grey toughened safety glass panels.

Sourcing the tint mattered as much as the specification. Grey glass is there for a reason, usually glare or privacy, and dropping clear panels into two of the windows would have left the elevation looking mismatched and undone the effect the original glass was chosen for.

Safer, stronger, compliant, and visually identical to what was there.
