Cleaning the Tracks Before the Glass Went In, Hamlyn Heights
On this page
A toughened sliding door panel at a Hamlyn Heights home shattered suddenly. The customer needed an after-hours repair to secure the house for the night.
We arrived the same evening.
The tracks are where this job is won or lost
When a toughened panel lets go, thousands of small fragments end up in the bottom track and the frame rebate. They are easy to leave behind and they cause real problems if you do.
Fragments in the track stop the door running properly and grind the rollers. Fragments in the rebate sit under the new panel and create a pressure point, which is one of the ways a brand new sheet of glass ends up cracking months later for no obvious reason.
So we removed all the broken glass, cleaned out the frame and tracks completely, and only then installed the new panel.
Laminated going back in
The replacement is laminated rather than toughened, restoring security and weather protection with glass that holds together if it is ever impacted again.
