A Stray Dart Took Out an Entire Sliding Door in Marshall
On this page
A stray dart struck the sliding door at a Marshall home. The entire toughened panel shattered instantly, fracturing from top to bottom.
Why something that small can do that
A dart weighs almost nothing, which is exactly why this surprises people.
Toughened glass is under permanent tension by design. That is what makes it strong across its face, but it also means a small, hard, sharp point striking the wrong place releases the whole stored tension at once. The size of the object matters far less than where it lands and how concentrated the impact is.
A tennis ball would probably have bounced off. A dart tip did not.
Same day, tracks cleaned, laminated in
We attended the same day, removed the shattered glass and cleaned out the tracks before installing a new laminated safety panel.
Clearing the tracks properly matters on a slider. Fragments left behind grind the rollers and can sit under the new panel, and laminated going back in means the next stray impact cracks the glass rather than emptying the doorway again.
