Why This Ocean Grove Shopfront Needed 80 kg of Glass, Not a Like-for-Like Panel

A large crack appeared across the main front window of a pizza shop in Ocean Grove.
The straightforward move would have been a like-for-like replacement. On this opening, that was the wrong specification.
Big openings change the maths
Large commercial windows put more load on both the glass and the frame than a domestic window ever does. Combine a panel that size with constant customer traffic directly against it, and the correct answer is a thicker, heavy-duty panel rated for a commercial environment, not a copy of whatever was there before.
So we specified up.
Why it took more than a day
The panel had to be specially manufactured in the thicker specification, which meant this job could not be completed the same day.
That is the honest trade-off on correctly specified commercial glass: you either wait for the right panel, or you fit the wrong one quickly and deal with it again later.
Once the glass was ready we returned and installed it. The finished panel weighs approximately 80 kilograms, and the shop has a clear, secure frontage again.
