Replacing a Shopping Centre Panel Between 9pm and Midnight at Westfield Geelong
On this page
Barwon Glass replaced a commercial glass panel at Westfield Geelong. The work was scheduled deliberately between 9pm and midnight.
Two reasons for that window
The obvious one is people. Removing and installing a large panel in a trading shopping centre is not something to do around shoppers, and off-peak hours meant the work could be done without any risk to the public.
The less obvious one is the silicone.
A structural silicone seal needs undisturbed time to cure properly. Finishing at midnight gave the seal the whole night before the centre reopened, rather than asking it to hold with foot traffic and door movement hours after going in. Same panel, same glazier, materially different result.
The replacement went in as laminated safety glass, and the centre opened the next morning as normal.

Working around trading hours
Most of our commercial work is scheduled around a business rather than through it: retail and shopping centres, offices and industrial properties, shopfronts and entryways, and jobs coming through insurance builders and facility managers.
All glazing is completed to AS1288, with insurance-ready documentation where the work is going through a claim.
The job in short
