Spontaneous Glass Breakage in Curlewis – Emergency Response and Replacement

Spontaneous Glass Breakage in Curlewis – Emergency Response and Replacement

Just after midnight at 12:05 AM on Monday morning, we received an urgent call from a Curlewis resident whose toughened glass door had spontaneously shattered. This type of breakage is often linked to a rare defect known as nickel sulphide inclusion, a condition that can cause toughened (tempered) glass to suddenly fail—sometimes without any visible warning.

Despite the early hour, our emergency response team arrived on-site within the hour to secure the property. We installed a solid timber board to cover the opening, protecting the home from weather exposure and ensuring the safety of the occupants.

Later that same day, we returned to complete the full replacement. We supplied and installed laminated safety glass—a superior alternative to toughened glass in residential settings. Laminated glass features an interlayer that holds the panel together even if damaged, meaning it will never spontaneously explode, reducing the risk of injury or leaving your property unsecured.

At Barwon Glass, we specialise in emergency glass repairs across Curlewis and the wider Bellarine Peninsula. Our 24/7 response team is ready to assist with all forms of glass damage—from accidental impact to rare cases of spontaneous glass breakage.
